Apotek 1 is the leading chain of pharmacies in Norway, and as such also the main employer of pharmacists. We have more than 300 pharmacies all over Norway and 3000 dedicated employees.
Each year Apotek 1 recruits several pharmacists from abroad in order to fill important vacancies in our pharmacies. We have recruited pharmacists from many different countries and we appreciate their contribution to our company. In the following you will find information about some of the issues international candidates need to be aware of.
Requirements and qualities we look for when recruiting from abroad:
All candidates with a pharmacy education from another country must apply for Norwegian authorization as a pharmacist through The Norwegian Registration Authority for Health Personnel (SAK). This is a mandatory requirement, you are not qualified for a position as a pharmacist in Norway without Norwegian authorization. For EEA-citizens, authorization is accorded where the applicant is able to submit the diplomas. For persons with education from countries outside the EEA, the application process is more comprehensive.
For more information about authorization see SAK’s website: http://www.sak.no/sites/SAK/english/Sider/default.aspx
If you want to work in Norway, it is advisable to start learning Norwegian as soon as possible. We require that pharmacists pass level B2 (Common European Framework) in Norwegian language to be able to work in our pharmacies. This is important in order to provide service of good quality to our customers. Apotek 1 offers language courses to the few chosen candidates for our international recruitment program. The language course is based on self-studying online, and the course takes about nine months to complete. The number of places in our international program is very limited so we recommend all candidates to start learning Norwegian on their own initiative.
We are currently taking in new candidates for our program, and you are welcome to send in your CV and cover letter to email@example.com.
For information and help regarding immigration issues, contact the Norwegian Directorate of Immigration.
Apotek 1 primarily recruits international candidates from countries that are part of the European Economic Area (EEA). This is due to the fact that the processes of authorization and acquiring a residence permit are much more comprehensive when the candidate is from a country outside the EEA. Candidates from countries outside the EEA, who hold a Norwegian authorization as pharmacist and a work- and residence permit, will however be considered for our recruitment program along the same lines as a candidate from EEA.
If you are a citizen of an EU/EEA country, you no longer need to apply for a residence permit, but you must register both prior to and after your arrival in Norway. Registration services are available online. For more information, see: http://www.udi.no/Norwegian-Directorate-of-Immigration/Central-topics/Work-and-residence/Work-and-residence-EUEEAEFTA-citizens/
For citizens from countries outside the EEA, residence permits are necessary. For more information on residence permits, please see: http://www.udi.no/Norwegian-Directorate-of-Immigration/Central-topics/Work-and-residence/
Apotek 1 is the largest chain of pharmacies in Norway. We have more than 300 pharmacies all over the country, which makes for a market share of about 45%. If we sign an agreement with a candidate, we require that the candidate is flexible with regards to which pharmacy and geographic area he/she will be working in. Candidates must be willing to move to remote parts of the country.
